A maternity session is about two things at once: beautiful images, and a setting where you actually feel comfortable. In the later stages of pregnancy, the right location isn't just about how it looks — it's about soft light, easy walking, and a calm atmosphere.
Here are the maternity photo locations I recommend most across Toronto and the GTA, chosen for exactly that balance.
Humber Bay Park, Etobicoke
The Humber Bay parks are a favourite of mine for maternity sessions. The light off the lake is soft and open, the pathways are flat and easy, and you get a gentle mix of water, sky, and greenery without any difficult terrain. The skyline sits softly in the distance for couples who want a hint of the city.
Edwards Gardens & Toronto Botanical Garden
For lush, romantic maternity photos, Edwards Gardens is hard to beat. Manicured greenery, stone bridges, and flowers in season create a soft, timeless backdrop. The paths are gentle and well-maintained, which matters in the third trimester. It's beautiful from late spring through autumn.
The Scarborough Bluffs
If you'd like something more dramatic, the Bluffs offer cinematic scale — cliffs, sky, and open water. Bluffer's Park at the base has calm, flat beach access, so you get the drama without a difficult walk. Golden hour here is extraordinary for maternity imagery.
A studio or at-home session
Not every maternity session needs to be outdoors. A quiet, light-filled space — a studio or your own home — gives a soft, intimate mood, complete control over comfort and temperature, and no weather to plan around. For sessions late in the third trimester, or in winter, this is often the easiest and most relaxing choice.
Choosing the right time
Most maternity sessions happen between 30 and 36 weeks, when the bump is beautifully defined but movement is still comfortable. For outdoor sessions, the hour before sunset gives the softest light. Whichever location we choose, the session is paced entirely around you — calm and unhurried is part of the result.
Planning your session
When we plan your maternity shoot, I match the location to how far along you'll be, the season, and the mood you're after — and I always choose spots with easy, short walking. If you'd like to see how these locations translate into real images, take a look at the maternity portfolio.
