Maternity is the one session category where comfort genuinely shapes the imagery. If you're walking too far, climbing too many stairs, or fighting crowds — the photographs show it. Burlington works exceptionally well for maternity sessions because almost everything is short-walking-distance from parking, and the locations themselves are calm. Spencer Smith Park is steps from a paid lot and gives you lakefront-with-pier light. The Royal Botanical Gardens has shaded walking paths and benches every 50 metres. Paletta Mansion grounds have manicured gardens with the lake as backdrop and a private feel even on summer weekends.
I shot Maria and Pavlo's maternity session here when she was 32 weeks. We did 35 minutes at Spencer Smith and 25 at the lakefront promenade — total 60 minutes. She didn't break a sweat. The gallery is one of my softer sets: there's a calmness in her face that you can't fake when someone is uncomfortable.
For wardrobe and timing, I send a guide a week before the session that covers what to bring (always two outfit options and water), when to arrive (15 minutes early to settle), and which of three nearby cafes is closest if you need to sit during the session. None of this is fancy. It's just practical — and at 30+ weeks, practical is the entire point.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant — is it too late for a Burlington maternity session?
Not at all. The 30–36 week window is actually my most-booked range. The bump is unmistakable, mobility is still comfortable for short sessions, and we plan around your energy. We may do 45 minutes instead of 60, with one location instead of two — that's a normal adjustment, not a compromise.
What's the most comfortable Burlington location for a third-trimester session?
Spencer Smith Park. The pathway is paved, flat, and short. There's a paid parking lot directly next to the entrance. Public washrooms are accessible. The pier and lakefront are both within 100 metres. If you need to sit during the session, multiple benches face the lake — and the imagery from those moments often reads as the most natural in the gallery.
Can my partner and older children be in the maternity session?
Yes — and I encourage it. Family-inclusive maternity imagery is some of the most meaningful of the whole pregnancy chapter. We typically do 20 minutes solo, then 20 with your partner, then 15–20 as a family. Older children often participate for 10 minutes and then play nearby. I plan the order around what works for your kids' attention spans.
Is the Royal Botanical Gardens the same as the Hendrie Park section?
Hendrie Park is one of the gardens within RBG. For maternity, Hendrie is my preferred entry — the rose garden and the woodland walk are both there. RBG charges admission per person, which is the only Burlington location with an entry fee. I include this in the planning so it's never a surprise.
What if the weather turns on the day of the session?
We have two options. We reschedule to a backup date within 7–10 days at no charge. Or we shift to a covered Burlington location — the Paletta Mansion conservatory or the indoor gardens at RBG (both with advance notice). I check the forecast 48 hours before and reach out proactively so you're not waiting on me.
How early should I book for late summer or early autumn?
Late August through mid-October is the most-requested window for Burlington maternity sessions — the light is golden, the temperature is comfortable, and the foliage starts turning at RBG. I recommend booking 4–6 weeks ahead for that window if your due date allows it.
